What is the difference between assembled roving and direct roving?

Simply put, their structures and application directions are different. Assembled roving is made by twisting multiple single yarns. The yarn structure is uniform and the tension is stable. Direct roving is a bundle of raw yarns directly gathered into bundles. The structure is looser and suitable for rapid layering processes such as spraying, weaving, and hand lay-up. Are assembled roving and impregnated yarn the same product?

Not exactly.Assembled roving refers to the yarn structure, which is a bundle of multiple twisted glass fibers; impregnated yarn refers to the surface treatment, whether it has an impregnant. The two can overlap. For example, assembled roving used for pultrusion and winding are usually coated with impregnation agents to improve the bonding with resins; but some assembled roving  used for weaving may not be impregnated with resins, but directly used for weaving. So it should be judged according to the purpose and cannot be simply equated.

What resins are assembled roving  mainly suitable for?

Assembled roving  is compatible with a variety of thermosetting resins. It is used in pipes, profiles, and storage tanks when combined with unsaturated polyester resins; it is used in corrosion-resistant products and chemical equipment when combined with vinyl resins; high-performance products such as electrical components require yarn and epoxy resin to be combined.
